KING FAMILY SLATES WREATH LAYING CEREMONY
ON THE 32nd ANNIVERSARY OF THE ASSASSINATION
OF DR. KING
In commemoration of the 32nd anniversary of the assassination of Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr., the King family will lay a wreath at Dr. King’s
crypt at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 1999 in a brief ceremony at The
King Center. The media is invited. We request that all media bring photo
ID as credentials.
The family wreath laying will be immediately followed by a joint 30-minute
press conference with the King Family and representatives from the Alpha
Phi Alpha Fraternity unveiling the King Memorial Project fundraising campaign
to build the memorial in honor of Dr. King on the mall in Washington,
DC.
Just prior to the press conference, a statement will be made regarding
the availability via the internet of the transcripts of the entire Civil
Trial in Memphis, TN.
Following the press conference, at noon, the Southern Christian Leadership
Conference will begin a program and wreath laying in front of Dr. King’s
Crypt. The wreath laying will be followed by a march to the State Capitol.
