2003 "Salute to Greatness"
Award Honorees Announced

We are pleased to announce that this year’s Salute to Greatness Award Honorees are Mr. Henry (Hank) Aaron & Mrs. Billye Aaron and The Ford Motor Company and Mr. Henry Ford, II (posthumously). Each have exemplified excellence in leadership and have demonstrated a commitment to social responsibility in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Aaron’s are being honored for their commitment to overcoming the adversity of racism in the world of sport & life to achieve their dreams, and their dedication to helping underprivileged youth accomplish their goals through their Chasing The Dream Foundation. They are also being saluted for their leadership of many charitable causes in the community and our nation that continue to benefit countless individuals.

The Ford Motor Company and Mr. Henry Ford, II have had a long-standing relationship supporting The King Center’s building and development programs. Under the leadership of Mr. Henry Ford, II (now deceased), a coalition of business, government, foundations, labor and educational leaders contributed $8.2 million to the construction of the King Center’s Freedom Hall Complex in 1978.  In addition, Ford Motor Company is being saluted for their commitment to charity, and the priorities they place on education, public policy, social programs, civic affairs and community development.
