"Salute To Greatness"
Award Redesigned

The "Salute to Greatness" Award is one of the King Center's highest honors and is presented to individuals and progressive organizations that exemplify excellence in leadership and have demonstrated a commitment to social responsibility in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Last year the award was redesigned by Donald Bermudez, of Studio Named Bermudez in Atlanta, to reflect some of the metaphorical elements Dr. King often spoke about. The sphere is indicative of the world and the never-ending cycle of life. Carved figures embrace each other all around the sphere, symbolizing the journey to become part of the "Beloved Community". The sphere is surrounded by the "arc of the moral universe which bends toward justice". The base, which is shaped like a pyramid, represents the pinnacle of humanity and mimics a waterfall- "So that justice will roll down like water and righteousness like a mighty stream." The bottom of the award is clear acrylic to represent faith, the foundation for hope and humanity.

The new 2003 Martin Luther King, Jr. Calendar is now available for purchase at The King Center's Gift Shop and at select bookstores around the country. If you haven't seen the 2003 Calendars, we think you will be pleasantly surprised by the wonderful pictures and quotes from some of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous speeches and books. All of the pictures were taken by photographer Benedict Fernandez and all proceeds go to The King Center to further preserve the legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We are delighted to offer this calendar for sale at our Gift Shop, which would make a great gift for friends and family.
